Maple Bee – Home CD Album

£10

‘Home’ is the second instalment of Maple Bee. It is a step on, both musically and in songwriting terms, from ‘Chasing Eva’. The record merges electronica with organic instrumentation – cello, drums, bass and guitar give rise to powerful melodies which are overlaid with Maple Bee’s unique voice. ‘Home’ is a stripped back record – most of the tracks began life on Maple Bee’s 8-track recorder at home, and were recorded amidst the madness of home life and noise – many of which are still there and made it to the final cut. From the infectious vocals of album opener ‘While You Were Sleeping’ to the recorder led gentle electronica of ‘So Far From Lost’, to the powerful distorted riffing of the stand out ‘This Face This Name’ to the gentle whispered refrain of ‘Somebody Take Me Home’, ‘Home’ is an album at times both intriguing and beguiling. The album was produced by Maple Bee and Pike (Maple’s co-writer in Huski), with additional mixing by Simon Gogerly (U2, Gwen Stefani, Lamb, Underworld). Maple’s pictures were taken by the legendary Bill Ling and the stunning album artwork comes courtesy of James Sutton.

Maple Bee has also shot a video for album track ‘No Place’ with US art photographer and grammy award winning director Kate Schermerhorn.
